How I came to chase my dream in Lagos – Salle

Fast-rising singer and songwriter, Salle born Kosisochukwu Gospel Peters, has revealed how she relocated to Lagos to chase her dream.

This was after a viral post by blogger, Tundednut in 2021, where she was seen singing with a tray on her way back from her daily routine from her mother’s shop on the streets of Owerri, Imo State. Salle said she came to Lagos on the invitation of Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, who gave her useful advice . She made the revelation, while featuring in this week’s episode of WithChude.

She said, “I wasn’t really prepared. I came with just a few of my stuff. After meeting Don Jazzy, he said so many motivational things to me. He gave me a strong word. I then told myself, ‘Why do I need to go back to the East? I can just start off here.’

That was why I stayed back. I was staying in one room by myself. I was very close to going back to my family house, but I was already interested and involved. I wanted to make music for real, meet my colleagues, and work with different people. I knew Lagos was a very big center for that, and going back, I didn’t want to go and start sewing clothes again and neglect music.”

Salle also talked about her decision to sign with Black Butter Records. “When I released my single “Icon”, a lot of record labels reached out to me and management companies. Black Butter stood out. Everything was very flexible and much in my favor, and that was the best I could work with. And they believed in the kind of music I make. Black Butter is under Sony. They saw the song on TikTok because it was really big on TikTok,” the rising singer said.

Salle, however, clarified the circumstances surrounding the viral post that brought her to the limelight, explaining that she was not hawking goods as widely perceived, rather she was assisting her mother in her food selling business in the East.
