VC Commends UI Branch of SSANU for Purposeful Unionism

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), UI Branch, has been commended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, fspsp, FAS, for purposeful unionism and for maintaining a cordial relationship with the University Management.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the commendation when the National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Comrade M. H. Ibrahim, other members of the National Executive Committee, and the Executive members of the UI Branch of SSANU paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor in his office.

Professor Adebowale commended the resilience and struggles of all university based unions to achieve success in moving tertiary education forward, especially in public institutions.

He commended the Chairman of SSANU, UI Branch, Comrade Rasaki Omisore, for constantly engaging the University with maturity and purposeful unionism.

He charged SSANU to continue to work together with the other unions to speak as one voice for the attainment of the common goals in the public universities whose autonomies have been grossly eroded by government policies.

The National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Comrade M. H. Ibrahim said the purpose of the visit to UI was to hold a zonal meeting where a new Vice President for the Western Zone would be elected.

He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the University management for relating well with SSANU members and treating them as bonafide members of the University community and for contributing to and supporting the continued growth and development of SSANU in UI.

He commended the University management for allowing SSANU to take its rightful place among the unions in the university.

Comrade Ibrahim recalled that in the last four years of his tenure, SSANU had taken strategic decisions, formulated and implemented new policies to impact positively in the governance of the universities.
