PANDEF Forms Reconciliation Committee to Address Wike-Fubara Dispute
The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has established a High-Level Peace and Reconciliation Committee to mediate the ongoing conflict between Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. This decision was made during a Special General Assembly in Port Harcourt, where PANDEF emphasized the need to resolve disputes within the region.
The committee, chaired by former Akwa Ibom Governor Obong Victor Attah, includes notable members such as Senators Emmanuel Ibok-Essien and Rowland Owie. Although the conflict between Wike and Fubara was not explicitly mentioned in the official communique, it falls within the committee’s mandate to address such issues.
Wike and Fubara have been at odds since Fubara took office in 2023, with tensions escalating despite interventions from President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders. PANDEF also condemned the recent dissolution of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, calling for greater governmental commitment to the region’s unique challenges.
