Kano Governor Approves N71,000 Minimum Wage for State Workers

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved a new minimum wage of N71,000 for civil servants, set to take effect in November. He announced this decision on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, highlighting his administration’s commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare and improving living standards.

Yusuf stated, “In line with our commitment to social justice and elevating the standard of living for our workers, we have approved N71,000 as the new minimum wage in Kano State.” He noted that this new wage structure will increase monthly salary expenditures to N6 billion for the state and N7 billion for local government councils.

Additionally, Governor Yusuf mentioned that salary adjustments would follow the recent promotion of 20,737 teachers, with an extra N340 million added to their monthly earnings. He praised the state’s minimum wage implementation committee for their efforts in making this initiative a reality, which is expected to have a positive impact on civil servants and the wider Kano State economy.
