Abia Govt Announces Free, Compulsory Education

Abia State has declared free and compulsory education for all children, regardless of their state of origin, starting from January 2025. This policy will cover Primary 1 to Junior Secondary School 3 in all public schools.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, warned that parents and guardians who fail to comply with the new policy will face legal action under the Abia Child’s Rights Law of 2006.

Governor Alex Otti’s administration is committed to providing quality and affordable education as part of its broader agenda.

Additionally, Kanu confirmed the relocation of the Abia State University Law Faculty to its Uturu campus, and the commencement of road rehabilitation projects in the state.

The government is also addressing issues related to the new minimum wage and the deteriorating Osisioma flyover, a key project from the previous administration.
