FG Removes Pro-Chancellor of FUHS, Otukpo Over Misconduct

By Fly Cable News

The Federal Government has removed Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences (FUHS), Otukpo, Benue State, citing his failure to uphold the standards of his office and violations of established procedures.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Federal Ministry of Health, the government outlined a series of unprofessional actions by Engr. Salami, including the unlawful suspension of the Vice-Chancellor without following proper procedures. Despite intervention by the Federal Ministry of Education and formal requests to reverse the suspension, Salami refused to comply and engaged in abusive behavior toward ministry officials.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, condemned the actions, noting that they undermined the Ministry’s role in overseeing the university and destabilized its governance. As part of the resolution, the Minister has called for the appointment of a new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman to restore proper governance at the university.

The Federal Government’s decision, effective immediately, underscores its commitment to ensuring good governance, rule of law, and accountability in Nigeria’s higher education institutions.
