ICPC Tracks N13.9bn in Federal Projects Across Niger State

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched phase 7 of its tracking of Constituency and Executive Projects in Niger State.

During a tracking exercise in Minna on Thursday, ICPC Tracker Mallam Sai’du Yahaya announced that at least 80 projects, spanning various sectors such as education, health, agriculture, water resources, power, and empowerment, will be monitored. These projects, initiated in 2022 and 2023, are valued at a total of N13.9 billion.

The aim of the tracking is to ensure that Federal Government projects are executed according to specifications and contracts, while also identifying potential fraud, and detecting any collusion between contractors or supervisors to defraud the government.

Yahaya revealed that the ICPC is collaborating with the Nigeria Institute of Quality Surveyors to assess the projects and recover funds from contractors responsible for substandard work. The assessment will ensure projects meet the required quality standards.

The tracking will span all three senatorial zones in Niger State, and it forms part of the broader phase 7 initiative, which involves monitoring 1,500 projects worth N610 billion across 22 states, including Kwara, Kogi, Kano, Lagos, Rivers, and others.

This phase includes projects from the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the National Primary Health Care Development Authority (NPHCDA), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), and Ecological Funds.
