Abia Govt Assures Compensation for Land Donors in Airport Project

By Fly Cable News reports

The Abia State government has announced that it will compensate land donors for the proposed Abia International Airport in Nsulu, in accordance with the Land Use Act.

Speaking to journalists, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, confirmed that survey activities for the project have begun, and landowners will be properly enumerated and compensated.

Chukwumerije’s statement follows protests by some indigenes of the donor communities over the weekend. He clarified that the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba, and the Special Assistant on Lands and Housing, Okorougo Aji, have held discussions with leaders of the seven land donor communities in Nsulu.

The Commissioner explained that a clear understanding was reached, including joint survey efforts with the Office of the Surveyor General of Abia State and the youth leaders of the Nsulu communities.

During the survey’s commencement on November 30, 2024, some members of the Umunna Nsulu protested, claiming they were not included. The Chief of Staff addressed their concerns, assuring that anyone feeling excluded would be properly engaged moving forward.
