Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted and seized 2.4 million kilogrammes of illicit drugs at seaports, airports, land borders, and communities across Nigeria from January to October this year.
Additionally, 14,480 suspected drug traffickers were arrested during this period.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), shared these figures during an oversight visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Narcotic Drugs to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
Marwa revealed that the agency is on track to surpass its performance from the previous three years.
He said between January 1 and October 30, 2024, the agency recorded 14,480 arrests, including 15 drug barons, and secured 2,867 convictions.
Furthermore, operatives successfully destroyed 547,378 kilogrammes of cannabis plantations.
“We are proud to say that we are on course to beat the performance of the previous three years. This year, our seizures amounted to 2.4 million kilograms, surpassing last year’s record,” Marwa stated.
