NOA Urges Nigerians to Stay Vigilant During the Yuletide Season

By Fly Cable News

As the year 2024 comes to a close, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on citizens across Nigeria, including those in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to stay alert and security-conscious during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.

The agency urged Nigerians to immediately report any suspicious activities or unfamiliar individuals in their neighborhoods to the appropriate security agencies for prompt action.

Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of NOA, made this appeal on Monday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, during a briefing on the agency’s nationwide awareness campaigns. He was represented at the event by Sule Haruna, the Director of Finance and Accounts at the agency’s national headquarters.

Issa-Onilu emphasized the importance of citizens’ collaboration with the federal government to address the country’s security challenges. He further explained that the NOA’s campaigns are not limited to security awareness but also address other critical issues, including the dangers of the “Get-Rich-Quick Syndrome,” human rights, HIV/AIDS awareness, and tax reform initiatives.

“Security is a top priority for the government, as outlined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Issa-Onilu stated, citing efforts such as strengthening the country’s security infrastructure, increasing funding for security agencies, and expanding policing initiatives to enhance collaboration between citizens and law enforcement.

The agency encouraged citizens to remain proactive in reporting suspicious activities and reminded them that ensuring safety begins with individual awareness.

Priscilla Gondoalour, the Nasarawa State Director of NOA, affirmed the agency’s commitment to continuing its efforts to keep residents well-informed about federal government policies and programs. She assured that the NOA in the state would conduct regular stakeholder engagements, including town hall meetings, visits to schools, places of worship, community organizations, road shows, and social media campaigns, to facilitate interactive discussions and input for national development.
