PSC fires back at IGP, demands evidence in recruitment exercise

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has fired back at the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) over allegations of corruption in the recent constable recruitment exercise.

The PSC is demanding concrete evidence to support the NPF’s claims of gratification and irregularities in the exercise.

In a statement released on Friday, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani accused the NPF of disrespecting the commission’s mandate to recruit police personnel

“The Commission demands that the Police should provide verifiable evidence to prove the allegations peddled against it as it is obvious that it is a case of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it,” the statement said.

The NPF had earlier alleged that the recruitment exercise was marred by corruption and irregularities.

In a statement, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun had claimed that unqualified and untrained individuals were included in the list of newly recruited constables.

“There are those who made it to the last stage of the exercise but were disqualified having been found Medically unfit through the standardised medical test but who also made the list of successful candidates as published by the PSC,” the IGP claimed.

“The same people who recruited anyhow for the police today will turn round to accuse the police tomorrow of inefficiency when their recruits start messing up,” he added.
