PDP governorship aspirant counsels Gov Oyebanji to redirect Ekiti’s economy

A business mogul and philanthropist, Otunba Peter Obafemi, has advised the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to apply a practical and genuine approach to redirect the state’s economy.

Obafemi, who is the leading governorship aspirant in the 2026 election on the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that a more pragmatic approach was necessary to put the state in good stead for socio-economic recovery.

Obafemi, an aviation guru who spoke with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, listed agriculture and setting up of industry as areas that the government should prioritize.

The PDP chieftain also advised the governor to encourage people to set up small-scale businesses and the government should provide an enabling environment.

Obafemi urged Governor Oyebanji to declare a state of emergency, particularly in the agriculture sector, to flood the market with food commodities and bring down their prices.
“A hungry man is an angry man. Bi ebi bati kuro ninu ise, ise bu se, eniti ebi npa, ko gbo iwasu.” he stressed.

The Ikole Ekiti-born businessman turned politician said: “Governor Oyebanji can introduce programs like Green Revolution, Operation Feed The State, and many other agricultural programs to bail us out of this economic quagmire and sole dependence on allocations coming from the federal government as means of survival.

“It was agriculture that the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, used to develop the South West region. Therefore we have to go back to it if truly Oyebanji means well for Ekiti people,” he said.

Otunba Obafemi said setting up of industry would solve the problems of unemployment, youth unrest, banditry, and kidnapping. He also harped on a stable power supply.

Obafemi said, “Governor Oyebanji must face the issue of electricity supply with a practical approach because of its importance to business striving and living comfortably. We say no to the epileptic power supply in Ekiti, the fountain of knowledge and land of honor.”
