‘Akpabio Must Go’ Protest Erupts in Abuja Over Harassment Allegations

Supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and civil society groups staged a protest at the National Assembly on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio pending an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against him.

The protesters arrived early, carrying banners with messages such as ‘Akpabio Must Go’ and ‘Protect Women’s Rights’, calling for accountability and a thorough investigation into the accusations.

The demonstration follows Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent claim that Akpabio harassed and targeted her after she rejected his alleged sexual advances. She made the explosive allegations during a live TV interview, further escalating tensions within the Senate.

The controversy stems from a February 20, 2025, seating arrangement dispute, which Akpoti-Uduaghan believes was retaliation for rejecting Akpabio’s alleged advances.

A spokesperson for the protest said their goal was to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.

“We are here to demand justice for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and hold those in power accountable. No one is above the law,” the spokesperson stated.

As of press time, there has been no official response from Akpabio or the Senate leadership regarding the protest.

The demonstration remained peaceful, with security operatives monitoring the situation.
