The Federal Government has revoked the contract for the construction of Suleja-Minna Road being handled by Salini Nigeria Limited. The Minister of Works, Dave Umai disclosed this during the inspection of the Federal Government projects in the area.
Umahi who inspected the road in the company of Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi; and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Segun Showunmi, among others, directed the immediate commencement of emergency reconstruction on critical sections of the road.
According to the minister, efforts to get the original contractors, Salini Nigeria Ltd to repair the severely damaged road over the past 18 months were unsuccessful. He added that the two worst-hit sections have now been declared emergency projects and will be handled under emergency procurement procedures.
The Minister confirmed that the Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago, had raised concerns directly with President Bola Tinubu, who subsequently directed the Ministry to intervene. Umai who earlier inspected Abuja Kaduna road expressed satisfaction with the job with the assurance to Nigerians that quality and standard will continue to be the watchwords.
