Mop Up UTME Records Low Turn Out Of Candidates

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said only about 12% of candidates turned up for the nationwide mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Speaking while monitoring the exercise at the 23 Technology CBT Centre, Abacha Barracks, Abuja, on Saturday, Oloyede explained that mop-up Examination typically cater for 4,000 to 5,000 candidates, who missed the main Examination due to illness, technical issues or emergencies.

Galaxy Television reports that the Registrar confirmed that security agencies uncovered candidates that engaged in impersonation with the assistance of tutorial centres, school proprietors, and undergraduates, while some CBT centres created enabling access for malpractice.

Prof. Oloyede disclosed that over 1,700 candidates fraudulently declared themselves as persons with albinism during registration to exploit perceived weaknesses in biometric verification software adding that, in one center alone, 450 candidates claimed to be albino. The JAMB Registrar however added that mop-up UTME results would be released between now and Monday, after the completion of security checks.
