Lookman, Ekong, Oshoala, Onuachu Nominated for FIFA Best Awards 2024

Four Nigerian footballers—Ademola Lookman, William Troost-Ekong, Paul Onuachu, and Asisat Oshoala—have earned nominations for the prestigious FIFA Best Awards 2024.

Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman is up for the Best Attacker award. The 27-year-old, who ranked 14th in the Ballon d’Or, is also a strong contender for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year.

Troost-Ekong, the Nigerian defender, has been nominated for the Best Defender award. The centre-back was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

Forward Paul Onuachu is a nominee for the Puskas Award, which honors the best goal of the year, thanks to his stunning strike against Konyaspor during the 2023-24 Super Lig season while on loan at Trabzonspor.

Super Falcons’ star Asisat Oshoala has been shortlisted for the newly introduced FIFA Marta Award, which recognizes the best Goal of the Year.
