Yobe State Governor Shuts Three Weekly Markets To Boost Counter-Insurgency Measures

The Yobe State Government has announced the temporary closure of three major weekly markets — Katarko, Kukareta, and Buni Yadi as part of renewed efforts to consolidate gains in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the state.

According to a statement by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor of Yobe State, the decision was taken for operational reasons to enable proactive engagements and enhance the security situation in the affected communities.

The statement noted “that the temporary measure became necessary to achieve set targets that will significantly improve the overall security landscape in the state.”

While acknowledging the inconvenience the closure may cause, Abdulsalam urged the public to cooperate and support security agencies for the greater good of the state.

He adds, efforts are ongoing to fast-track the operation and minimize the impact of the market closures on the livelihoods of citizens and pleads for the support and understanding of the affected people in the collective interest of peace and security,

The government reassures residents that the markets will be reopened in the coming days once operational targets have been achieved.
