Abuja lawyer extols appointment of Disu as IGP.

An Abuja based legal practitioner, Barr. Ifeanyi Nwabueze, weekend, extolled the appointment of Tunji Disu as the new Inspector General of Police stating that it will usher new era in the force.
Barr. Nwabueze said in a statement released in Abuja that his elevation is not only well-timed but reflects years of dedicated service adding that Nigerians are looking forward to a tenure that will strengthen professionalism and public trust in the Nigerian Police Force.
According to him, there are pressing issues that require urgent attention. First, strict compliance to court orders must be enforced across all commands.
“The rule of law is the foundation of democracy, and disregard for valid court directives undermines public confidence in the justice system.
“The recurring practice of multiple arrests in different parts of the country on the same subject matter should be addressed.
“Once a unit has assumed jurisdiction over a case, coordination and restraint must prevail to prevent abuse of process and unnecessary harassment of Nigerian citizens.
“The growing proliferation of cybercrime units across various police formations raises concerns, particularly when the National Cybercrime Center (NCCC) already exists as the specialized body established to concentrate technical expertise, digital forensics, and coordinated intelligence.
“Cybercrime investigations require advanced digital competence and structured oversight. Aligning such investigations more closely with the NCCC’s centralized framework would promote professionalism, consistency, accountability, and lawful enforcement nationwide.”
He further stated that the new leadership presents an opportunity to reinforce discipline, improve coordination, and reaffirm the Police Force commitment to constitutional governance.
While wishing the new IGP wisdom and success in delivering a reform-driven tenure that serves justice and strengthens national confidence, he urged Nigerians to give him the needed support and cooperation to achieve the best.
