Tuggar resigns as foreign affairs Minister, to pursue Bauchi Governorship bid

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has stepped down from his position as he intensifies his ambition to contest for the governorship of Bauchi State.
The development was confirmed on Monday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who issued a brief statement acknowledging the minister’s exit.
“The resignation of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs is confirmed,” Ebienfa said.
Tuggar’s decision follows earlier reports that he was among members of the cabinet of Bola Tinubu expected to relinquish their positions in order to pursue political ambitions ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
His intention to join the Bauchi governorship race had already been signposted by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir.
Abdulkadir confirmed that the former minister is keen on securing the state’s top seat, noting that his principal would comply fully with the guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“The minister is interested and aspires to run for the governorship seat of Bauchi State,” Abdulkadir stated, adding that Tuggar would adhere to the electoral timetable and regulations governing the process.
A native of Udubo in Gamawa Local Government Area, Tuggar is no stranger to the state’s political terrain, having previously contested for the same position.
His resignation now signals a renewed push to clinch the governorship, setting the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched political contest in Bauchi.
