Senate Confirms Badamasi Lawal as New NSIPA National Coordinator
On Thursday, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Badamasi Lawal as the National Coordinator and CEO of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), replacing Halima Shehu, who was suspended due to alleged financial misconduct.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Mr. Lawal’s confirmation during the plenary session, following his approval by voice vote. The decision came after a report from the Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Investments, presented by Committee Chair Idiat Adebule, who affirmed that Mr. Lawal met the required professional, moral, and legal standards for the role.
Adebule noted that Mr. Lawal had undergone thorough screening and presented evidence of tax compliance, with no petitions filed against him. Following the Senate’s approval, Akpabio expressed confidence that Mr. Lawal would tackle ongoing issues within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and urged him to execute his duties fairly.
Appointed by President Bola Tinubu in August, Mr. Lawal previously served as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Katsina State.
