MARAN To Host Conference On Dismantling Trade Barriers.

By Fabian Anawo

Dismantling Trade Barriers and Navigating Regional Trade, will be the topic of discussion when the The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria, MARAN, holds her second Annual Maritime Lecture on November 21.

The choice of the topic, according to the President of MARAN, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere, is born out of the urgency to address the critical role of the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, in boosting regional trade, overcoming barriers, and unlocking new economic opportunities across the African continent.

Mr. Bivbere said that AfCFTA has the potential to open up the nation’s economy for prosperity, if well implemented.

The Chairman of the 2024 MAMAL Organizing Committee, Mr. Oluyinka Onigbinde said that the persistent trade barriers that have been hindering the region’s economic integration over the years was worrisome.

He said that the lecture would provide deep insights into these barriers and explore actionable solutions that would strengthen intra-African trade and also position Nigeria as a major hub in the equation.

Mr. Onigbinde said that experts from maritime, trade, and economy have been carefully selected to speak on the impact of AfCFTA on regional trade routes, port infrastructure development, regulatory harmonization, and the future of shipping in Africa.

MARAN, the leading professional body for maritime journalists in Nigeria, is renowned for promoting transparency, accountability and the growth of Nigeria’s maritime sector through timely, in-depth, and insightful reportage.

The Annual Maritime Lecture is designed to foster dialogue, share insights, and provide a platform for key stakeholders in the maritime and trade sectors to share ideas on how to facilitate trade and commerce..
