OPEN LETTER: Eshilokun, Badru, Akiolu, Afinni & Oyekan-Oluemgbon
Dear All,
I trust this letter finds you in good spirits and health. As an aspiring and committed stakeholder deeply invested in the political landscape of Lagos Island, I reach out to you with both high regard and earnest concern regarding the development and enhancement of youth centres throughout our vibrant community. These centres play a crucial role in nurturing the potential and talents of our young people, offering invaluable resources and support that can shape their future positively.
I am eagerly anticipating a time when the premier Lagos Island will take the lead in establishing skills acquisition hub centers. These centres hold the promise of playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of our youth across Lagos State. While I truly appreciate the dedication and diverse initiatives you all have already implemented, I am looking forward to seeing the proposal and eventual establishment of tech hub centres specifically on Lagos Island. These centres would not only cater to today’s needs but would also bear the potential for driving sustainable development in the constituencies, ensuring that our youth are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
Our esteemed Senator, Distinguished Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun, along with our dedicated House of Representatives members, Hons. Dolapo Badru, Kayode Akiolu, as well as members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hons. Sulaimon Afinni and Oyekan-Oluemgbo, called upon to actively support and invest in the establishment of a comprehensive Youth Development and Resource Center. This centre is envisioned to serve the young population of Lagos Island, providing them with much-needed resources for growth and empowerment, similar to successful models that have been implemented in other constituencies. Through this initiative, it is hoped that young individuals will have access to programs and facilities that can nurture their potential and help them contribute positively to the community.
The Tech Hub Skill Centres should be dedicated to empowering young people with essential skills in the ever-evolving tech landscape. Aspiring learners have the opportunity to dive deep into a variety of skills, such as web development, where they can master the art of building and maintaining websites; machine learning, which introduces them to the fascinating world of artificial intelligence and data-driven predictions; and data science, where they learn to interpret and analyse large sets of information. Additionally, they can explore creative fields like content creation, which focuses on producing engaging digital content, and copywriting, honing their ability to craft persuasive and compelling text. Other programs also include animation for those interested in bringing stories and characters to life, software skills to harness the power of different applications, and UI/UX design, emphasising the creation of user-friendly digital interfaces. Finally, virtual assistants help become adept at managing tasks and supporting various business functions online. With this comprehensive suite of digital learning skills, aim to embed technological proficiency and knowledge within our youth, equipping them with the tools necessary for the future.
Therefore, I’m confident that the Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development program is poised to significantly enhance and directly address the urgent challenges encountered by the youth of Lagos Island. By tackling unemployment head-on, the program aims to create substantial job opportunities and foster a sense of self-efficacy among young individuals. This initiative will not only empower the youth but also actively involve them in the development of policies. Furthermore, it will encourage their free and meaningful participation in local politics, thereby ensuring their voices are heard and considered in the decision-making processes that affect their community.
I sincerely appreciate your unwavering commitment and service to the community of Lagos Island. Your efforts will not only enhance the lives of residents but also contribute to a brighter and more prosperous future for the area.
Best regards,
Fashina Shakiru.
