Tinubu Directs Release of Funds to Settle Pension Arrears for Military Veterans

By Fly Cable News reports

President Bola Tinubu has directed the release of funds to settle pension arrears, salary increases, and other entitlements owed to retired military personnel. This follows two days of peaceful protests by military veterans at the Federal Ministry of Finance.

On Friday, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, confirmed the development and expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his swift response.

Matawalle commended the President for ensuring the timely payment of a three-month salary increase and the release of funds to cover pension arrears and other outstanding benefits for retired military personnel.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, the Minister confirmed that military personnel have already received payment alerts for the salary increases.

He also praised President Tinubu’s continued commitment to the welfare of both active and retired military personnel, underscoring the administration’s dedication to resolving pension arrears to improve the lives of those who served the nation.

Matawalle acknowledged the role of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, in ensuring the successful release of the funds.

He urged the Nigerian military to remain focused on their duties, assuring them that the President is committed to supporting their efforts in addressing national security challenges.

Matawalle reiterated the importance of the Nigerian military in tackling insurgency, terrorism, and other criminal activities, and reaffirmed the government’s ongoing efforts to eliminate insecurity across the country.

He concluded by assuring the Armed Forces of President Tinubu’s unwavering support to strengthen their ability to secure the nation.
