Lagos Speaker Meranda Appoints New Leadership Team, Calls for Unity

Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has pledged to work with other branches of government to achieve a “Greater Lagos.” During her first session as Speaker, she announced the appointment of new principal officers to lead the House: Temitope Adedeji (Majority Leader), Richard Kasunmu (Deputy Majority Leader), David Setonji (Chief Whip), and Ganiyu Sanni (Deputy Chief Whip).
Meranda also revealed the formation of the Selection Committee, which she will chair, with Deputy Speaker Fatai Mojeed, Majority Leader Adedeji, Chief Whip Setonji, and Gbolahan Yishawu as members. Acting Clerk Taiwo Ottun will serve as the committee’s secretary.
In her address, Meranda expressed gratitude to her colleagues for their trust, committing to transparency and good governance. She emphasized unity in the Assembly, collaboration with the Executive, and a focus on serving the people of Lagos, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, or religion.
Meranda also expressed condolences for the passing of Pa Sunny Ajose, a respected political leader from Badagry, and instructed the Acting Clerk to send a letter of condolence to the family.
The House adjourned to January 21, 2025.
