Kwara PDP Accuses Ilorin South Chairman of Transformer Vandalism, Calls for Investigation

By Fly Cable News

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has accused the Ilorin South Local Government Chairman, Abdulmajid Kpodo, of vandalizing a 500KVA transformer donated by Senator Saliu Mustapha to the Alagbado community. The party alleges that the act was carried out to demonstrate political loyalty to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the expense of the people’s welfare.

In a statement signed by the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party described Kpodo’s actions as a disservice to the community, leaving residents in darkness while prioritizing political allegiance over governance. The PDP also criticized the chairman’s emergence, arguing that he was installed through what it called a “compromised” local government election in September 2024.

The party linked the transformer’s removal to an alleged political rift between Governor AbdulRazaq and Senator Mustapha, claiming that the governor, feeling threatened by Mustapha’s recent public interaction with PDP leader Dr. Bukola Saraki, has resorted to political sabotage. The PDP insists that the move reflects deeper divisions within the APC, which it describes as a coalition of “fake comrades brought together by hypocrisy and jealousy.”

According to the PDP, Ilorin South residents, particularly those in Alagbado, are the ones suffering due to what it describes as the governor’s “political insecurities and inferiority complex.” The party condemned the act as a violation of IBEDC regulations and a criminal offense that should not go unpunished.

The PDP has called on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure those responsible face legal consequences. The party insists that public infrastructure must not be used as a tool for political supremacy battles.

The statement concludes with a strong demand for accountability, emphasizing that governance should focus on service delivery rather than political rivalries.
