Jandor: PDP Has Lost Faith in Itself

The 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has stated that the party has lost confidence in itself due to ongoing internal crises.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Jandor—who resigned from the PDP on Monday—cited the leadership struggles at the party’s national headquarters as a key factor in his decision to leave.

He pointed to the crisis surrounding Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, who has faced increasing criticism from party members, as well as the dispute over the National Secretary position involving Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye.

Tensions within the Board of Trustees (BoT), National Working Committee (NWC), and National Executive Committee (NEC) have further deepened divisions, particularly in the South-South, where a zonal congress was held on February 22 without the governors’ approval.

Jandor said the turmoil has severely damaged the PDP’s public image, questioning whether anyone still openly associates with the party.

“Who goes around posting that they are a member of PDP these days? With the ongoing issues at both the national and state levels, even the party itself has given up,” he said.

He further argued that those who previously worked against the PDP are now leading it, making any real reform impossible.

With the party’s 2025 congresses and 2026 primaries approaching, he believes the same individuals will remain in control, leading to no meaningful change.

“If the same people remain in charge, you can’t expect different results,” he added.

Regarding his future political plans, Jandor stated that he has not yet decided on his next move but will consult before making a decision.

“There are 18 political parties in Nigeria, so there are 17 other options. There are also coalitions forming, with people coming together to explore new possibilities,” he noted.

He concluded by affirming his commitment to respecting the leadership and rules of any political party he chooses to join.
