FIRS Introduces USSD Code *829# for Streamlined Taxpayer Services
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has launched a new USSD code, *829#, designed to make tax-related services easily accessible via mobile phones across Nigeria. This initiative, revealed by FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji at the Revenue House in Abuja during Customer Service Week, positions Nigeria as the sixth African country to adopt a USSD platform for tax simplification.
According to the statement by FIRS media adviser Dare Adekanmbi, the new service enables taxpayers to retrieve their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), verify Tax Clearance Certificates (TCC), get information on tax rates, locate FIRS offices, and more—all without needing internet access.
FIRS Chairman Adedeji highlighted the code as a vital tool for making tax services more efficient and accessible to all Nigerians, regardless of location. He emphasized the FIRS’s commitment to a transparent and responsive tax system, complemented by the new Customer Centricity Guide, which outlines policies to ensure respectful and professional service.
Additionally, the Director of the FIRS Taxpayers’ Service Department, Loveth Onanuga, expressed the agency’s dedication to exceeding taxpayer expectations, while Servicom’s National Coordinator, Nnenna Akajemeli, praised FIRS for its efforts to enhance taxpayer satisfaction with these innovations.
