Reps Push for FRSC to Carry Firearms
A bill proposing that officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) be permitted to carry firearms has advanced to its second reading. Sponsored by Abiodun Adesida (APC-Ondo) and Olaide Muhammed (APC-Oyo), the bill was read during Thursday’s plenary session. It seeks to create a Road Safety Special Armed Squad authorized to bear arms.
The bill, deemed “straightforward” by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, was not debated and was instead referred to the committee on FRSC for further review. The FRSC has long advocated for the right to carry arms, but previous efforts, including a similar bill in the 8th Assembly, have faced resistance.
