NAFDAC destroys harmful products valued at N10 Billion in Gombe
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed various harmful products worth N10 billion in Gombe State.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency’s Director-General, announced this on Wednesday, noting that the items were confiscated from six states in the North East region.
Represented by Mr. Kenneth Azukwe, the Zonal Director of NAFDAC, Adeyeye stated that the destroyed goods included food items, drugs, and other regulated products.
She emphasized that these seizures were the result of the diligent efforts of regulatory and enforcement officers in the zone who worked tirelessly to intercept dangerous items.
“NAFDAC is committed to ensuring that only quality and safe food items, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, and packaged water are available for consumption in Nigeria,” she said.
Adeyeye highlighted the agency’s dedication to protecting public health through rigorous standards and innovative practices that set a benchmark both nationally and globally.
She reiterated that the destruction of these harmful products serves as a warning to unscrupulous individuals and entities that NAFDAC will continue its efforts to safeguard the health of Nigerians.
The NAFDAC chief also indicated that the agency would strengthen its regulatory frameworks, enhance surveillance, and ensure that violators are prosecuted.
She added that NAFDAC’s unwavering vigilance has earned it international recognition and partnerships with leading health organizations worldwide, emphasizing the adoption of advanced technologies and a commitment to continuous improvement.
